Car recovery

Car accident recovery.

What your car needs depends on what has actually happened to it. A car that rolls and steers is a straightforward job. One that does neither is not, and sending the wrong equipment turns a two-hour job into a day.

Detail

Written for someone dealing with this now. If you would rather just talk to us, the number is at the top of every page.

By what has happened to the car

If it rolls and steers, a tilt-and-slide is usually straightforward: the bed lowers and the car is winched on with minimal further stress on the suspension and bodywork.

If a wheel is seized, the steering is damaged or the car is not on all four wheels, winching is not the answer and a Hiab lift usually is. Trying to drag a car that will not roll damages what is left of it.

If it is low, high-value, or has bodywork open to the weather, enclosed transport keeps the journey from adding to the repair bill.

Damage that is not where you think it is

The visible damage is rarely the whole picture. A front-end impact can affect the radiator pack, the crash structure behind the bumper, the suspension geometry, and any radar or camera systems mounted at the front.

This is worth knowing before anyone tells you the car is fine to drive. If there is any doubt, having it recovered and assessed properly is the cheaper mistake to make.

What happens after collection

The car goes somewhere secure while the damage is assessed. Keeping it intact and available matters, because until it has been assessed it is evidence of what happened to it.

From there it is either repaired or, if it is not economical to repair, dealt with as a total loss. Either way, we can arrange replacement transport where you are eligible and assist with the administration of the claim around it.

Questions

Asked on this exact subject.

My car still drives — do I need recovery?
Not necessarily, but 'it drives' and 'it is safe to drive' are different questions after an impact. If there is any doubt about steering, brakes, lights or fluid leaks, have it recovered and assessed rather than risking it.
Can you collect from a garage or compound?
Yes. If the vehicle has already been taken somewhere, we can usually collect it from there rather than from the scene.
How far will you transport a car?
We arrange recovery and onward transport nationwide, so the vehicle does not need handing to a second operator partway.
