Putney & Roehampton

Accident recovery in Putney and Roehampton.

Putney High Street and the bridge form a single congested corridor with very little slack in it. An incident on the bridge approach is felt across the whole area within minutes.

On the ground

Written for someone dealing with this now. If it is easier to talk, the number is at the top of every page.

The bridge and the High Street

Putney Bridge and the High Street are bus-dense, narrow relative to their traffic volume, and have almost no room for a vehicle to be recovered without affecting the flow. A collection here is planned around when it can be done rather than simply how fast.

If the vehicle is driveable and it is safe, getting it off the High Street and into a side road before we arrive makes a substantial difference.

The A3 and Putney Vale

The A3 across Putney Heath and past Putney Vale is fast dual carriageway with limited stopping places. Damage from incidents here tends to be more severe than in the town centre, and vehicles more often need lifting rather than winching.

Treat a stop on the A3 as you would a motorway: everyone out and behind a barrier, and 999 if the vehicle is in a live lane.

Roehampton and estate access

Roehampton mixes estate roads, low-rise blocks and narrow service access. Some of it takes a recovery truck comfortably and some of it does not take one at all.

Tell us the block and the access road. In this area more than most, the difference between the right and wrong vehicle is the difference between a job done and a wasted journey.

Questions

Asked here in particular.

There has been a shunt on Putney Bridge — how long will recovery take?
We will treat it as urgent but we will not promise an arrival time. The bridge is heavily congested and access has to be worked around the traffic. If the vehicle is blocking, call 999 so the police can manage it.
My car is damaged on the A3 — should I wait with it?
No. Get yourself and any passengers behind a barrier away from the carriageway, and call 999 if it is in a live lane. Call us once you are safe.

One call. One team. From accident to back on the road.
