Accident Storage
& Recovery

Kensington & Chelsea

Accident recovery in Kensington and Chelsea.

Two things define recovery work in the Royal Borough: the value of the vehicles, and the near-total absence of space to work in. Both push the job towards enclosed transport and careful loading rather than speed.

On the ground

Written for someone dealing with this now. If it is easier to talk, the number is at the top of every page.

High-value and low-clearance vehicles

The Royal Borough has a higher concentration of expensive, low and modified vehicles than anywhere else in the country. A car with limited ground clearance cannot be winched onto a standard bed without risking the front splitter or the underside, and on some vehicles the loading angle alone is the whole problem.

That is what low-approach loading and enclosed transport are for. Enclosed also keeps a damaged high-value car out of sight and out of the weather between collection and assessment, which matters more here than the extra cost usually does.

Tell us the make and model when you call. On these vehicles it genuinely determines the equipment.

Mews, garden squares and basement garages

Cobbled mews, garden-square terraces and single-width streets with permit parking on both sides are the normal working environment here, and a long tilt-and-slide frequently cannot get in or turn round once it has.

Basement and undercroft garages beneath townhouses and mansion blocks add a height restriction and often a ramp too steep for a damaged vehicle to be pulled up. In those cases the vehicle is usually moved to street level first and loaded there.

Give us the street and, if it is a garage, the access arrangement. It is the difference between one journey and two.

Enforcement and the A4

Parking enforcement across the borough is quick and unforgiving. An undriveable car in a resident bay or on a single yellow accrues charges while you are still on the phone to an insurer, which is the usual reason people here move a vehicle into storage sooner rather than later.

Cromwell Road and the A4 running through the borough are the fast element — a different kind of incident from the residential streets, and generally a more straightforward recovery once the vehicle is off the carriageway.

Questions

Asked here in particular.

My car is very low — can it be recovered without damage?
Yes, but it needs the right equipment. Low vehicles are loaded at a shallow approach angle or transported enclosed. Tell us the make and model when you call so we send something appropriate rather than something that will ground it.
The car is in a basement garage under the house.
Tell us the height restriction and how steep the ramp is. Where a damaged vehicle cannot be brought up safely, we will work out the right way to move it before anyone arrives.
